The Blue Water Grill - Applecross

Without a doubt the Blue Water Grill is in one of the best locations in Perth. Located in a heritage listed building high on a hill just metres from the Swan River, the views are absolutely stunning.

However, the food guide only awarded this place 13/20, so heading off for lunch I was a little apprehensive that the food may not be as good as the views. I decided to forget about the guide and go with no expectations, hoping to be blown away.

We arrive at about 1.30pm for a lunch on a weekday and the restaurant was still quite full, all of the outside tables were taken. If you are sitting inside, unfortunately the view is obscured and quite difficult to see. The decor inside is lacking with these large blue curtains hanging down one wall. However, there is some quite nice art. The restaurant lacks atmosphere.

The service was quite good, attentive. The food was very expensive for what was provided. I had the roast beet, Persian feta and pistachio salad which tasted great but was a tiny serving for $17.50. Similarly, my companian had the entree size fish and chips, which was good, the chips were perfectly done, but just very expensive for $18.50 and not good enough to justify the price tag.

Overall, my advice if you want a simple meal with great views would be to get fish and chips from your local and eat it on the beach.
